While searching for information on the Colesburg Cornet Band, Gordon E. Shaffer happened upon this image that I had posted and recognized his great-grandfather, who I had been unable to identify. About this image, Shaffer writes:
"The man's name is Charles Elliott Shaffer and the boy is Eugene (Bud) Shaffer. It was taken by Herman J Birkholz in his Colesburg studio c. 1888. I've attached the photo from your website along with a scan of a tintype taken of Charles in the same studio at about the same time. [See below.] He owned a carriage repair shop on Main St. next to his home."
