Series: Town Bands
Parades
Harking back to their origins in the tradition of military band, town bands frequently offered music on the move. No parade was complete without one or more bands to provide some aural stimulation to excite the crowd. Parades were organized to mark all kinds of public events - patriotic holidays, fairs and festivals, traveling shows and circuses, just to name a few. And as the Eagle Grove photos shows, sometimes bands would parade all by themselves just to get from one location to another.
