"At Clarinda, the band of the Fifty-fifth Iowa Infantry, incorporated, own the armory occupied by themselves and Company I of the same regiment. Geo. W. Landers, chief musician, is the manager of the property, which is modern throughout, with a ground floor 65 by 140 feet, with a stage 30 by 55 feet, and seating capacity for 1200 people. The armory accommodates many attractions which otherwise would go to a theatre. It has a complete setting of stage scenery, 10 dressing rooms, is electrically lighted, steam heated and has a first class orchestra. In addition there is a gymnasium with shower baths. The band has about $35,000 invested in the enterprise."
